Five rules for surviving Easter

Like all Polish holidays, Easter is famous for its abundance and disregard for healthy eating principles. To celebrate these holidays, we meet with the family, cook special dishes, dress smartly. Our goal is to rest from work, relax in a nice company and feel the true spring atmosphere. Often, however, practice proves to be something quite different… Instead of relaxation, our body feels tired of continuous digestion of heavy dishes. What about the feeling of spring? How can we enjoy spring spending most of the day at the table? It’s time to make changes to your holiday plans and go for a walk, enjoying the air filled with spring!

  1. You don’t have to give up holiday pleasures completely. Just eat less. If you decide on a high-calorie delicacy then put on a small portion. A very good way is to use a small plate. A large plate with a small portion is empty and we feel unsatisfied. However, a small portion filling a small plate seems natural and optically larger, so it will satisfy us more.
  2. Don’t be afraid to say no. Deciding on another portion just to avoid disappointment of the hosts is wrong thinking. We should be able to refuse. However, you can politely get out of a difficult situation by using a psychological trick. Instead of saying “no thank you”, say “I would like to try all your delicious dishes, so I will refrain from adding more”.
  3. Remember about a large amount of drinks. The body must be properly hydrated to function properly. In addition, drinking plenty of mineral water or tea (of course, avoid a large amount of black tea, choose fruit) will fill your stomach and increase the feeling of satiety. Remember to be careful with fruit juices, because they also provide a large dose of energy and sugars.
  4. Do not rush. Eat slowly while enjoying a mixture of flavours and aromas. Even when talking, try to look at what you eat as much as possible. Eating with all our senses makes us feel more satisfied with the meal and we need a smaller portion. In addition, by eating slowly we will feel fuller.
  5. Give up spending the whole day at the table. Offer your family or friends a walk, go on a bike trip or a trip to a water park. You can also go on a trip to the nearby forest, take a walk in the fresh air and organise a picnic. This way, the dilemma of seconds disappears by itself, because you can take a small amount of treats.
