Healthy eating pyramid, or rules on the plate

You probably know this pyramid. The principles of healthy eating are very similar throughout the world. The basis are cereal products, vegetables and fruits are also very important, followed by meat, fish and dairy products. Fats and sweets should be kept to a minimum. But does the healthy eating pyramid look the same all over the world? See how the universal recommendations can be presented in so many different ways!

And here is the latest presentation of healthy nutrition designed by U. S. Department of Agriculture. The pyramid was replaced by a plate. This time the focus was on a clear message. There is actually nothing to add to the description, everything can be seen as if on a plate.

The United Kingdom used a more advanced plate composition. Illustrations of food products of given groups appear. This version of the plate does not  exclude food and drinks with a high fat and sugar content. This group, although the smallest, still exists in the UK’s nutritional recommendations. Another plate appears in Mexico. Here, vegetables were separated from fruit. However, meat, fish and dairy products are in one group. Looking at Mexican cuisine, it is not surprising that the illustration shows a separate group with different types of beans. After all, it is an integral part of every Mexican dish.

Have you noticed that Americans only eat with a fork, the British with a fork and knife, and Mexicans with a fork, a knife and a spoon? I do not go into further interpretation.
